William J. Layland, a local businessman, had collected some 500 ethnographic items in the early 1900s. His heirs later offered the items to the City of Cleburne and the Layland Museum came into existence in 1963. This museum houses over 50,000 artifacts and 100,000 photographs which preserves local history and home life. The museum is also involved in collecting oral histories. Layland museum offers several featured exhibits each year. These temporary exhibits last between 1-3 months.
